Getting Ready For That Above Ground Pool Project

One of the biggest questions that come up is “how am I going to dig this?” or this is going to take forever”. Wrong! There is a tool for every job imaginable or if you are a fanatic as I am, they are called toys.

If there is no need to buy it, then rent it. I am sure everyone has a local Rental Store close by that have complete knowledge on everything they rent and will teach you what you need to know.

Two particular items to make your job and life very easy is a combination mini front end bucket tractor with a back hoe. Not only can you dig the dirt but you are also able to dispose of it. My son in the picture below learned to use this machine at the ripe old age of 15 and did an dsc00719.jpgexcellent job.

The other tool required for a perfect job is a surveyor’s level. Most of them are laser and can be done with one person. Believe me, the more people you have helping the better. The backhoe will require concentration and no distractions.

If your rental dealer will allow, try out the tractor in the rental yard. It does take a bit to get use to. That’s when it goes from work to fun. The next time you are going by a construction site and have a few minutes to spare, stop and watch a pro at work. You will be surprised what you can pickup just from watching.

The laser level can be setup in your yard and left there till the digging is done. Adsc00708.jpg yard that looks level can be very deceiving. My own yard looked reasonably level and I still dug out 14 yards of dirt.

This leads me to the next item. Getting rid of the dirt. If you have enough property or access to a place to put it in a field next door, you will be way ahead of the game.

If not, you will need to order a clean fill bin. Most companies have them at a reasonable cost. Do not put garbage in then as to cost sky rockets to a ridiculous amount. Ask them what is allowed or not allowed to be dumped as clean fill.
